Mixed container shipping can place compatible types of cargo in one dedicated container—for example a vehicle with boxed personal effects, machinery with spare parts, or commercial goods with related equipment. The load must be planned as a complete shipment, with suitable packing, weight distribution, securing and documentation for every item.
Rapid Logistics can review what you intend to ship and whether a mixed load is acceptable for the route. Carrier rules, customs requirements and cargo compatibility vary, so prices and acceptance are quote-only. Do not load a container until the booking terms and packing plan have been agreed.
Planning a mixed load
Start with a detailed inventory. Identify the number of vehicles or machines, their dimensions and weights, plus the package count, volume, weight and value of all additional goods. The container must remain within its payload and road transport limits while allowing safe loading and securing.
Heavy items should be positioned to distribute weight correctly. Lighter goods must not be placed where they can collapse or move around the vehicle. Access to lashing points should remain clear, and cargo should be protected from contact damage throughout the journey.
Vehicles and personal effects
A vehicle may be accepted with household goods in the same container on some routes, but the destination authority or carrier can restrict what is placed inside the vehicle. Keys, fuel level, battery condition and vehicle documentation must follow the applicable instructions.
To ship cars UK exporters should provide the registration, chassis number, make, model, dimensions, value and proof of ownership. Personal effects need a separate, itemised packing list. Avoid vague descriptions and declare any restricted goods before collection.
Commercial cargo and machinery
Machinery should be cleaned, drained or prepared as required by the carrier and destination. Attachments and spare parts need secure packing and clear identification. Commercial invoices should match the physical cargo and distinguish individual items, values and countries of origin where required.
Batteries, fuels, aerosols, chemicals and pressurised items may be dangerous goods. They cannot simply be added to a mixed container. Provide safety data and technical information so the carrier can decide whether they are acceptable.
Container selection and loading
A 20ft or 40ft container may be considered according to the volume, length and weight of the full load. A high-cube container provides additional internal height but does not remove payload, road or destination restrictions. Review our container sizes and dimensions before sending measurements.
Professional loading may require ramps, forklifts, lifting equipment, timber supports and certified securing materials. Photographs should be taken before, during and after loading. Where the shipment is complex or high value, an independent survey or loading certificate may be appropriate.
Documentation and arrival
Prepare a complete packing list, commercial or pro-forma invoice, vehicle documents and any export licences or permits. Customs may treat vehicles, household goods and commercial cargo differently even though they travel together. The consignee should confirm import eligibility and destination procedures for every category.
Destination unloading can require equipment, labour and sufficient space for a container truck. Port charges, customs examination, storage and delivery are not assumed to be included unless the written quotation lists them.
Request a mixed container quote
Use the quotation form and attach or offer a complete inventory, dimensions and photographs. Tell us how the cargo will be loaded and unloaded. We can compare a mixed dedicated container with LCL groupage, car shipping or separate consignments using current carrier information.
